For other years, see MINNESOTA MUSIC AWARDS.

DATE:  July 13, 1995

PLACE:   First Avenue

PERFORMERS:

Eight Minnesota groups performed, including:

  • Phull Surkl, backed by Casino Royale (“All Da Heads”)
  • Savage Aural Hotbed
  • Bobby Vee (“Rubber Ball” and “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes”)

NOTES:

Winners were chosen by about 190 of the approximately 450 members of the Minnesota Music Academy.  This was a 50 Percent increase over the number of last year’s voters.

The Jayhawks won four awards, but could not attend as they were traveling between shows.    Only three of the five members had Twin Cities addresses.  Polara, another big winner, was another no-show.

The Connie Hechter Award was presented to Ron Soskin, an entertainment lawyer who helped found the Minnesota Music Academy ten years ago.
