PLACE:  The Prom Ballroom (which refused to turn on the air conditioning)

SPONSORSCity Pages, Great American Music and The Wax Museums

HOST:  Louie Anderson

NOTES:

  • The awards were referred to as both the Yammies and the Minnesota Music Awards.
  • Executive Producer was Tom Bartel of the City Pages.
  • The list of nominees was drafted by City Pages staff “in conjunction with over 100 music professionals in the Twin Cities.”
  • Ballots were published in the City Pages with a warning not to stuff the ballot box.
  • Approximately 1,500 ballots were tabulated.
  • Lamont Cranston won a number of awards, and members were actually booed when they accepted; apparently it was felt that the awards had become more of a popularity contest.

PERFORMERS:

  • Sue Ann Carwell (no show)
  • Sam Davis
  • The Dillman Band
  • Middle Spunk Creek Boys
  • Patty Peterson (brought down the house!)
  • T.C. Jammers
  • The Time
  • Flamin’ Oh’s – played after the ceremony.
